jailbreak???

Hi everyone...

I am looking to buy a macbook and so i will get an 8gb ipod touch with it... as I am reading here, I see a lot of "jailbreaking"... can someone tell me what this really is... and what it can do... benefits?... thank you everyone... sorry for this question in advance... i'm just really curious...

pretty much lets you install 3rd party apps. was especially cool before the 2.0 release but still, jailbreaking will let you install apps that apple will not support (such as tethering apps for iphone and such)
