Jailbreaking 3G 3.1.3

Hey guys, I'm sure it's posted somewhere but can't seem to find it.
I'm selling my 3G and want to jailbreak it to make some more money to get ready for the newest iPhone rumored to come out soon.

My question is what are my options for jailbreaking my phone with the most up to date OS?
I want to back up my phone on my macbook to save all my data, then use my windows PC to jailbreak.

I know there are different jailbreak softwares but have no idea what the differences are. I mine as well unlock it for other carriers while I'm at it.

All feedback will be appreciated!

Well, what firmware is your phone now? Also, what baseband is your iphone now?

Thanks for the reply. I installed Spirit last night and my firmware is 3.1.3 with the latest baseband. Does this mean I can't unlock?

Yes.

Jailbreak yes, unlock no.

I think that is the way it is as of today. With Spirit you can jailbreak but you can't unlock yet.

Exactly. Leave Cydia installed and show them the icon. They can take it from there. We all have different reasons for jailbreaking

I used spirit to jailbreak mine, and it works great... This coming from someone that just got their first Iphone and jailbroke it the next day..hehe
Was very easy.. took all of about 5 minutes....
I don't think 3.1.3 can be "unlocked" yet though....
