jailbreaking IOS 5.0.1 on 3GS

Hi all,

Yes I was a major douche and upgraded to 5.0.1 without thinking about JB's!

Ive been through many JB tuts on youtube showing how to do a tethered JB with ipsw's using red snow etc etc (im always using latest versions of all softwares)

but everytime i do it, it tells me unrecognized build and throws me an error message.

The cydia icon is on my 3gs, it is the reddy-browny colour, but still doesnt work!

Any ideas?!

When redsn0w asks you for firmware, did you click on OS5 instead of 5.0.1?

Also, Jailbreak on 5.01. is a tethered jailbreak. So, you must boot tethered with Redsn0w so your cydia works.

The only issue i can think of is the new or old boot ram, but i tried JB twice selecting old then new bootram.

When ive done it, i downloaded the 5.0.1ipsw, JB'd via redsnow using that, then "just boot'd" my 3gs using red snow, but still nothing.

It just throws up an error message unrecognized build and a error code which was about 800 letters and numbers long.

Apple is still signing fw4.1 for 3gs, just to let you know.

Again, When you open Redsn0w, you have to point it to OS5 (even your phone has 5.0.1) and proceed with it. You can't point to 5.0.1.
