Hello I've recently bought the iPhone 4 and I wish to jailbreak it.. But I've heard a rumor saying that people who bought thir iPhones from New Zealand, are forbidden to do so, and phone companies have put in a chip inside the phone that detects jailbroken phones and blocks them out and prevents it from being used again. Is this true or is it just a rumor? Please help!

That's entirely untrue. In fact I don't think that's even a rumour. You'll be just fine jailbreaking.

Haha yeah, I was too confused.. Since I'm new to all this :/ well thank you everyone! One more thing, I've been watching videos and tutorials about jailbreaking and I've noticed there are different tutorials.. Two major different I've noticed are that one uses green poison and redsnow thing, and this other tutorial I watched showed me how to jailbreak straight from the iPhone at jailbreakme.. Which is safer and more recommended?

LOL....you need to go to the hack section. Lots more info there.

And dont buy that software from that spammer above me. You can get it for free and probably how/where he got it and is going to charge you for it.

Alright, thank you all for your help :)

The pros far outweigh the cons. What are the cons, anyway?

You might not want to quote him though

There are no cons really, aside from the fact you may brick your phone and if you don't know how to set it into recovery mode you can never recover.

Also, thanks for the heads up. :)

One more thing. My phone is on a contract. Will jailbreaking still have no effect?

It'll still be fine. Think of jailbreaking as building, by doing it you are not tearing down your old house, you are just adding extra bits to it.

Haha i hope so, I'm still nervous about it lol.
