Hi,

I've just got a new iPod Touch as a birthday present and am thinking about jailbreaking it. I'm pretty new to this stuff so have been reading and think I have a basic grasp of what needs to be done. But really can't afford to screw it up so would appreciate all the help and advice you can give me.

So far I understand I need to use redsnow. Is that the only option? Seems a little complicated, but hope its easier when your actually doing it.
Any good idiots guides that you guys used?
Youtube video maybe?
Has anyone managed to break their touch doing this?
Will this invalidate my warranty?

Thanks for the help, a little scared I'm gonna screw my new present up

It is complicated, and a lot of things can go wrong. Redsn0w isn't even it it's full version yet, and still requires your ipod to be connected to the computer to run code every time you turn it on. It isn't worth it yet. Just wait till the full version of redsn0w comes out.

Hey, this is a good way to jailbreak your iPod Touch 2g.
http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=138578
And if that doesn't work, just look around in the RedSn0w section of that forum to find a method that works for you.
and like the previous poster says, it's still tethered, so you have to do something everytime you boot it.
But people have made boothelpers so that it can go in one click.
Check out that forum.

And yes, i have a jailbroken iPod Touch.
I don't know about the warranty though.

Thanks for the advice guys. I just ended up getting a Nitro Key today instead.

jmann4489 and posts by other people made me scared to go it alone . I hope its as simple as they say, I guess i'll find out tomorrow.

There's a youtube video, which I think is from them (or someone has nicked their name :D). And there were posts by them on a few forums which is how I found it.

Think it will come in the morning, but I won't be home till 4pm :(

Does this video include spoken explanations? I can't really follow youtube videos that include spoken explanations, as I'm hard of hearing.

Please do let us know how this works out. The battery on my first gen Touch isn't really holding a charge any more, but I've been reluctant to go out and buy a 2nd gen, because I love being jailbroken.

Hmmm, just went back to check and it looks like they added another video. The person in the video isn't very good at Mac Man :D

They don't have any talking on em, just shows it working.

the nitrokey CANNOT jailbreak your iPod, no matter what you do, you have to restore the iPod with the custom firmware through iTunes. I wouldn't buy it until I have seen positive review off it over at ipodtouchfans and by Musclenerd

Anyway here's a pic of my Nitro Key that arrived earlier today :D

have you jailbroken yet? does it boot your iPod if you have jailbroke your iPod?

I just downloaded the software and instructions from the link.

Then I plugged in the key to start the iPod and it started but cydia was there now.

have you tried a reboot yet?

I've only had to reboot after installing Winterboard. That worked ok. Nothing else has asked me to reboot so far.

I have tried switching it on and off a few times aswell, all worked so far.

do you have to go into DFU mode or does it just reboot like normal?

If the keys already plugged in when i switch it on it just starts like before.

If the key isn't plugged in it goes to white screen. When I plug the key in, it starts like normal
