Hey, So my iPhone 4 was jailbroken, and I wasn't really getting any use out of it, so I decided to just update to iOS5. I tried to restore the phone via iTunes but I kept getting a message saying that the requested build is not eligible when updating.

I then put it in DFU mode and tried again, but still no luck.

Anybody got any ideas?

Thanks!

what error are you getting? a few things is your Itunes updated. might be the computer your on try another the cord etc. might not be in DFU might need to restart your computer. could be a baseband issue IE 3G/3GS 6.15 we need more details to help you. or there are plenty of threads already out there if you search probably faster. ;)

Sorry,

iTunes 10.5
The error is - The iPhone cannot be restored, the device isn't eligible for the requested build.
It does it on all my computers, tried 2 Macs and a PC.

I couldn't tell you what baseband it was on, it's on software 4.3.5 when it was jailbroken.

You normally get that message when trying to restore to an older firmware that Apple is no longer signing.
I would have suggested a host file problem but you tried three different computers. Did you try update instead of restore just plug the phone into itunes no DFU or anything special, once the phone is recognized chose update in itunes.

I had a similar issue in which i was getting a error with a number when trying to update a jailbroken iphone4 to IOS5

Make sure your iphone is plugged in

Put it into DFU mode and use tiny umbrella before updating it via itunes.

Download Tiny umbrella > http://thefirmwareumbrella.blogspot.com/

also make sure you have updated Itunes.

Install>Open > Click on advanced(Next to general and log) > Uncheck (Set host to cydia on exit) , you can leave request SHS from cydia and all the other ones checked.

then go back to itunes and retry updating to IOS5

This is what I had to do in order to update an Iphone 4 from 4.3.

Hope this helps. Good luck
