I have recently got an iPhone 3G jailbroken in order to use my O2 SIM in the Oranage phone. I understand that as soon as the phone is jailbroken you can not update the software (it's on version 4.1 currently). Firstly,is there a simple way around this?
Secondly,if there isn't,how am I able to use Facebook on the phone? I can't download the app as it requires 4.1 and even using Safari or another Internet browser has the same issue.
Thanks for your help!

Their isn't a simple workaround as far as i'm aware.

The usual process is to restore back to stock, update to the new ios and then re jailbreak.

Perhaps you may want to either change networks or sell the 3gs and use the money generated to either buy a factory unlocked iphone or at least one thats on the network of your preference.
