Jailbroken iPhone 3gs. Attempted update through iTunes

Hi there. My friend tried updating his Jail broken iPhone through iTunes and now it trys to search for a network with no success.

Any suggestions on what to do? I'm trying to get as much info as possible off him, if I find anything else out I will update you here.
