Hi everybody,

I just purchased a jailbroken iphone 3gs from ebay from a seller who claims that it is unlocked and will work on all networks. They have excellent feedback and reviews.

I have just tried to get it working and it says 'no service' in the top left hand corner.
I have a T-Mobile Sim and don't understand why I am getting this message.

If you have any advice please please send it my way

Thanks!

it says in the phone 'modem firmware' 05.14.02

I didn't think 5.14.02 could be unlocked. I thought you'd have to use the iPad baseband to be able to unlock it. If I'm wrong someone else please chime in.

Edit: I got a chance to look at the eBay listing and it lists it as a 3G and not a 3GS, but I still don't think it's going to matter as I don't think 5.14.02 can be unlocked. I think somewhere along the line a 3G could be downgraded depending on what the bootloader was but I don't know enough about that to really offer some insight.

hi there, thanks for getting back to me.

Seems strange that the seller has such good feedback though and has sold similar products before and would sell me this one that doesn't work.
It's really disappointing. I've messaged them about it and am waiting for a reply.

Thanks for help
Anybody else have any suggestions?

The seller is from UK and assume the Iphone comes from UK as well. Possibility that it has been unlocked by carrier.

Since you have T-Mobile, make sure you disable the 3G and see if it works.

Contact buy to clarify, if the issue is not resolved, then file claim with Ebay/Paypal.

Hi there,
I have disabled the 3G and still have either 'No service' or 'No Sim'.

Will wait to hear from seller and then proceed to file a claim.

Thanks

Maybe the seller is a moron and installed Ultrasn0w not knowing that it wouldn't actually unlock the phone at all.
