I use gmail and, having Jailbroken my iPod (which I recommend), the Mail app started downloading 200 messages from my Gmail account - marking each one as 'unread' which was very annoying.

I've now sent a couple of messages and noticed that messages I send come up in my inbox as new, unread messages.

In Mail on my Mac I can set rules (ie. any emails with "From:myemailaddress put in Sent folder and mark as read). But I can't do this on the touch which makes the Mail app on the touch fairly useless.

If I don't use my Touch for a couple of days and send a dozen emails, they suddenly all show up on my touch. I then have to go through them 'reading' them all so I can be aware of when I really DO get a new email.

Does all that make sense??

This is not a problem with the mail app. It's just the way GMail POP3 works as a result of the "conversation" format. Just switch to GMail IMAP and you'll be fine.
