Jailbroken/unlocked iPhone 3GS on 4.1 and wanting to upgrade

I'm on 4.1 software and 06.15.00 firmware. I tried upgrading to ios 5 with redsnow and it made my phone go black then finally figuring how to get it out of that it went into recovery mode and would appear with the 1015 message and once I fixed that and put my backup file back on it every thing is how it was except cydia is missing. I really want to update and get the new features but without the hassle I went through last night with my phone when trying to update.
