Troubling. I wonder if there was money in his wallet or his clothes gave any clues to whether this is foul play, animal, or voluntary. Hoping for the best.
 
I generally recommend people never swim alone. Always with a buddy. Even in a very shallow river or lake. A long, long, long time ago when I was younger and more fit I volunteered for a county's search and rescue. We never came across a dead body but we found people close to death. I learned quite a bit during my time doing that. I think most search and rescues are still highly volunteer and donation dependent.

So true, one never knows what may happen. Always best to have someone around if going swimming.
