January 2008 missing from ical?

I, am first time user of a macbookpro. All great so far, but have not been able to work with Ical : "the month of January 2008 is missing ???" it jumps from December 2007 into February. Same thing happens with the dashboard. The curiuos thing is, the setup window at systems preferences is ok. Hope it is a minor missunderstanding on my part. Can anyone help??
