I'm thinking of buying the January update for my iPod Touch but I'm wondering if I buy the update will they update the update so that my iPT becomes outdated?

If you think it's logical to give Apple money for apps that new customers get for free, then by all means: do it!

For the rest of us, jailbreaking works well. We get the January app pack for free, plus dozens of free apps/games from third-party developers. Oh, and the ability to customize the UI (icons, sliders, wallpaper, button graphics, etc) however we see fit.
