Japanese Input in ML?

I was looking over the improvements to Chinese language in ML, and I'm ticked that there hasn't been a ton of improvements to Kotoeri. If there can be handwriting input for Chinese, why the hell isn't there some for Japanese?

Anyone know if Kotoeri has been improved at all in ML?
