hello from a newbie

l am having problem with java and java script slowing down my safari with the lovely beach ball appearing on a regulaar basis. l have a desk top mac and checked a friends mac and low and behold they have the same problem. ln both cases if l uncheck the java/javascript in safari security the problem goes away, however then l can't tab within a web site.

Any suggestions what the problem is? l downloaded the java again for my version of leopard bu twith no success. This is reminding of the good old windows days.
