I'm a newbie here, and I've seen three different answers that are confusing the heck out of me. I've read the entire limera1n thread and got even more confused.

I have an iPhone 4 that came with 4.0.2, so I've been waiting for a jailbreak to be released. Now one has, so:

1) Do I JB 4.0.2, save the SHSH blobs, install TinyUmbrella, then update to 4.1?
2) Do I update to 4.1 then jailbreak?
3) Does it not matter at all, due to something about "blobs that Apple is currently signing", so I should just update to 4.1 then jailbreak?

Thoughts?

well I was going to say #2 but then I thought about it and #1 makes more sense. but, do you plan to unlock the iPhone? right now there is no option to unlock and it has been said if you use limera1n you will not be able to unlock in the future. I would wait a day or so and see what is said so you dont make a mistake that you will regret in the future.

I don't know that I plan to unlock -- it will up the resale value of the phone, but I also plan to keep this phone for as long as possible, so I don't think that matters. I think I'll just update to 4.1 tomorrow and JB tomorrow night if the mostly good news keeps flowing.

FYI, people are already using limera1n to JB, unlock with ultrasn0w and using it on tmobile.

You can download tinyumbrella and save your 4.1 SHSH
Run TSS server and keep it running on the background
Start itune and restore to ios 4.1 (you can download ios4.1 from iphoneheat or redmondpie)
Download limera1n beta4 and jailbreak

nobody goes to the ipod touch section often, so ill ask here

i have a 3rd gen touch already jailbroken on 4.0.....i want it on 4.0

should i just update it through iTunes then run Limera1n?

whats the best way?

Yes, because you don't have to worry about your baseband, as your iPod touch doesn't have a Baseband.

Do you care about preserving your unlockable baseband or no?
If you want to JB you can JB now both 4.0.2 and 4.1 versions.
Every time you restore or update to official firmware your JB is gone.
So if you want to be JB on 4.1 you first update to 4.1 and then JB your iphone.

I have a similar situation. I have an iphone 4 on 4.02 and I did not have my SHSH saved in time before Apple stopped signing.

If I decided to JB using Limara1n, that means there is no turning back to 4.02 right?
