JB and unlock iPhone 3GS 4.3.5

Hi,

I bought a used unlocked 3GS in the US. The screen went wrong and I brought it to Apple in France. They exchanged it for a brand new one and now I need an ATT sim card to activate it which I don't have...
The baseband is 05.16.02 and version 4.3.5
Is there a way to Activate/JB/Unlock this phone ? I wanted to offer it for Christmas :-/

best way is get a att sim of ebay it doesn't need to be a active account.

I might do that. Then I'll be able to activate the phone, but I would essentially be interested in unlocking it so that I could use it in France.
I've seen it's doable by updating the baseband to the iPad BB. But with the risks and the loss of the GPS features, I'm not so interested in this solution.
Do you know if I'd be able to unlock the phone by any other way ?
Maybe upgrading to 5.0 ? Or is my baseband too new ?

Your baseband is (anything after 5.13.04 i think) is too new and has to be upgraded to the iPads baseband.

Ive JB my 3GS too.
The loss in GPS capability isn't noticeable IF you have 3G or WiFi available at all times.

The warranty will be voided but for a new phone like yours I wouldnt worry about it.
When it comes to reselling you'll probably lose some value on it for sure.
