I have a 16 GB iPhone that I JB'd using blackra1n last year soon after it was available.

After doing the last Cydia update recently, my iPhone has been acting up - accessing basic apps like the Phone, Settings, etc...will cause the screen to freeze and the phone to lock up.

I then have to do a hard reboot by holding down the On/Off and Home button.

BTW, the phone is using version 3.1.2 and the modem firmware is 5.11.07
Carrier is ATT 5.5

Open up Cydia and make sure your SHSH are saved for 3.1.3. Which hopefully they are (if not use 3.1.2), if so download tinyumbrella and download the 3.1.3 SHSH from Cydia. After which start the server and upgrade to 3.1.3. Then set up your phone as new and run the spirit JB.

Thanks, but Cydia is displaying 4.0 and I don't have a clue as how to carry out the rest of your instructions.

Cydia displays "This device has SHSHs on file for iPhone OS: 4.0

If I go into "My Settings" it displays 3.1.2 and the baseband is 05.11.07

What would be the best way to get my phone working correctly again while still maintaining the JB'd apps I've installed as I would hate to have to re-download and re-install and re-configure everything.

These issue (Black screen, screen freezes, loss of functionality, general buginess, etc...) began when I did the last Cydia update a couple of weeks ago and has gotten progressively worse.

Also, I don't think I can use the Spirit JB since my OS is 3.1.2 and Spirit JB is for 3.1.3 and up, AFAIK

Thanks.

OK, I've re-installed Cydia and did a full Cydia update and things seem to be back to normal for now.

If your iPhone is the new bootrom you are screwed because you can't restore to 3.1.2 or 3.1.3, sorry. But if it's the old bootrom then you can use this.

Well, I spoke too soon.

I'm still having problems so I re-launched Cydia and I'm getting the following message:

Error: Refreshing Data

Failed to fetch
http://repo.beyourowniphone.com/./Release.gpg Host Unreachable

Failed to fetch
http://repo.beyourowniphone.com/./en.bz2 Cached failure

Failed to fetch
http://repo.beyourowniphone.com/./Packages.gz Cached failure

Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

(Okay)

Selecting (Okay) results in the "Reload Data" text + spinning icon being displayed for about 20 seconds, then Cydia appears as normal.

Also, when I select the Phone icon from the Dock, I often get a black screen with just the title bar displayed.

In "My Settings" it displays 3.1.2 and I haven't connected my phone to iTunes in a few months, although I have D/L'd updates from iTunes thru my phone for my paid for apps a while ago.

Cydia now displays the following:

[Error: Refreshing Data]

GPG error: http://repo.smxy.org xena Release:

NODATA1 NODATA2

Failed to fetch
http://repo.beyourowniphone.com/./Release.gpg Host unreachable

(Okay)

Selecting "Okay" displays the "Reloading Data" text and spinning icon for about 2 minutes, then it displays:

"3 Essential Upgrades"

One or more essential packages are currently out of date. If these upgrades are not performed you are like to encounter errors.

(Upgrade Essential)
(Complete Upgrade)
(Ignore (Temporary)

So I select "Complete Upgrade" and then "confirm" button in the upper right corner.

The process begins and a bunch of stuff gets downloaded and installed, and then I get a pop-up dialog stating: http://repo.beyouriphone.com
Host unreachable
(Okay)

I click "OK" and immediately get:
http://repo.beyouriphone.com
Cached Failure
(Okay)

I click "OK" and I get:
http://repo.beyouriphone.com
Cached Failure
(Okay)

Then the original message I posted above re-appears:

[Error: Refreshing Data]

Failed to fetch
http://repo.beyourowniphone.com/./Release.gpg Host unreachable

Failed to fetch

(Okay)

I click "OK" and the "Reloading Data" and spinning "wait" icon reappears for a few minutes.

After that, I get:
(Close Cydia Restart)
I select it, and it returns me to the springboard.

I then re-launch Cydia, and no errors.

But when I try to launch my phone app 2x in a row (open it, close it, re-open it) I get a black screen with just the title bar (Time, battery meter, etc...) and the device is still not acting quite right.

Any suggestions?

I do have an app called "AptBackup" installed.

Should I backup everything and start from scratch?

I'm running 3.1.2 and 05.11.07 and used blackra1n last year to JB

The device is still acting up.

I just tried it in my car and my HU has a USB in and I used the iPhone charging cord to connect to my HU and the HU to control the iPod app within the iPhone, but now my iPhone just locks up whenever I connect to the USB in on my HU and I have to do a reboot. (Power button and Home button pressed)

All of these problems just started recently.

What would be the best way to get things working normally again?

Restore to 3.1.2, choose set up as new (to get rid of issues) jailbreak with Redsn0w.

Will I need to re-install my apps, JB'd or otherwise?

Also, will I need to re enter all my email settings, and will I lose all my address book entries, calendar appts., etc...?

In other words, will I need to redo everything?

iTunes will sync back your App Store apps as long as you back up (sync) before restoring. Make sure you are syncing your music, movies, photos, calendar and contacts (use the tabs to select on/off)

Your Cydia apps will have to be re-installed.

If you choose set up as new, which you should, your saved games, texts and settings will not come back (poor design by Apple)

Thanks for the quick reply.

Looks like my weekend will be spent saving/restoring/JB'ing/installing apps.

Any other suggestions before I undergo this long, time-consuming process?

Thanks.
