I have been looking into the Thunderbay iv mini.

There are two pretty good deals.

The empty one is $349.

The populated one (I would be interested in) is $699 (with 4x120gb Mercury Extremes).

Except, I don't live in the states.

In Europe I cant find this deal without incurring import duties. Have any other manufacturers or resellers got similar deals anywhere?

The rules:

It can be populated only if it has disks of equivalent quality.

I will only be using it as JBOD, and controlling it with softRAID.

Has to be thunderbolt 2.

Can be designed for 3.5 inch disks, if adapters are included.

Why:

Currently I use the internal 256gb as the system drive and a Samsung 850 pro 512gb external USB3 for Macintosh HD, both backed up by a LaCie Quadra RAID 1 4gb TimeMachine.

The time machine RAID itself is also mirrored, I use softRAID 5 to achieve this.

Macintosh HD and System are also individually mirrored as well, just to old slow disks as an extra emergency procedure.

I want a 4 disk stripe for my Lightroom library and Photoshop scratch disk, it will only be used for these two purposes, I'll still keep the samsung attached via USB for general use on the system, documents etc.

I'll set up similar redundancy systems as described above for this array.

2014 Retina iMac maxed out, 10.11.1

Does anybody have any advice or ideas??

Thanks!
