Okay, so I got a refurbed PowerBook yesterday. I was copying some files over from another machine and it suddenly decided not to co-operate. I left both machines hoping that they would work it out but when I came home, the same situation existed.
I ended up running Tech Tool Pro 4 on my blue and white G3 and left it overnight. It was working block by block, repairing damage. When I woke up, it was attempting to re-boot but I'm pretty sure it can't find the hard drive any longer.
It feels as if I gave the old machine a heart attack when I started transferring files.
Still, the original hard drive died only a few months ago. My only thought is the heat from that corner of the house plus the upgrade from G3/400 to the G3/800 could have pushed it over the edge.
Any other thoughts?
