Hello from my new iPad Air!
I am enjoying this product a lot, however I noticed something about it… I had the iPad mini 6 before, and yes, I did have jelly scroll in portrait orientation.

Now I bought this iPad mostly because the mini felt like I was a second class citizen, getting some features but not all features and developers focusing on the 11+ inch sizes more than the smaller sizes. And I am enjoying it, but something came to me that I was not expecting…

The iPad Air M3 has jelly scroll…
Now it is not in portrait orientation, but it is in landscape orientation… I believe that this will in fact be more annoying than portrait orientation because that’s how most of us use our iPads these days.

Is it a big deal? No not at all. All you will be scrolling sideways for really is in the photos app and the home menu. I just wanted to let everyone know that I have jelly scroll on my M3 iPad Air.

Are any other M3 iPad Air buyers experiencing jelly scroll too? How is it impacting you?

All iPads have this effect either in landscape or portrait orientation. It's more visible the narrower the screen, so more pronounced when it occurs in portrait orientation, especially on the small iPad mini, hence the backlash there. The iPad Air always (?) had it in landscape. The 13" may be used more in landscape, but I don't think that's really the case for the 11" (I use mine almost exclusively in portrait).

(Note: portrait vs. landscape refers to vertical scrolling.)

What's the problem of second class citizen???

Ok so I have M2, it may have a bit of jelly scrolling (I can't notice if I don't focus on it) so it doesn't impact me + jelly scrolling is kinda funny so I don't care if it has that or not lol

It's just not fair that apps are more optimized on the larger iPads and that the mini doesnt get any form of keyboard/trackpad support. Its just a bigger iPhone that has less cameras and no call functionality.

Oh I understand more now lol but for the keyboard it would kill me… damn the device is 8 inch how a good keyboard can fit in there???

Apple has brilliant engineers, how about a magnetic folding keyboard? They could easily double the size of the keyboard with this design. Start with that before making a foldable phone…

Um I think the purpose of a mini iPad is a good device for kids, good device for reading books and for fun… it’s less a device where you are going to need a keyboard + this might kill the weight!

You mean some sort of integrated solution. Apple sells BT keyboards and trackpads that work just fine with iPads. I once used a keyboard case with my iPad Air, but the keyboard is terrible, so I switched to carrying a spare BT keyboard with my iPad when I need it. (I really don't need a trackpad myself, so haven't tried it with the Magic Trackpad, but it should work.)

One of the things I appreciate most about my Mini 7 is how small, light, and portable it is in its clear ESR case. To each their own, but I wouldn't want to bulk it up with a keyboard case.

Same for my mini 6… that’s why I keep it even if I have an iPad Air m2…

❓❓

Was wondering how you know that “most of us use our iPads” in landscape orientation?!

Another question. Do you notice the jelly scroll when *reading* or when *rapidly skimming*? That distinction is important — if one is taking their time, reading the text, processing it, rather than scrolling rapidly down a web page, scanning, and moving on quickly, the jelly effect must be much less noticeable, if at all!

I've never noticed jelly scrolling on an iPad Air in either landscape or portrait. Nor did I ever see it on an iPad Mini. Of course, both were older models and not the last couple of iterations. Don't see it on an iPad 9, either, but then I’m almost always in portrait orientation.

Doesn’t has a trackpad
That's correct. Given the size of the Mini, it is not practical to have a trackpad. Having a super-lightweight keyboard folio makes the Mini a productivity tool. I had a Zagg keyboard case for my Mini 5 and it was a throwback to netbooks. This Hou keyboard folio is far superior.

Yeah and I think he wants a trackpad…

A trackpad on this Mini keyboard would make it almost unusable by shrinking the key area. It's good as is and I'll consider it for my Mini 6.

I have an older iPad 5th gen air with M1 and never experienced jelly scroll at all. It has a 60hz screen so there is text blur but other than that no jelly scroll effect that I can notice. LCD screens don’t typically have jelly scroll effect it it an OLED screen issue at least that was my initial thought?
