i jailbroke the fixed version of the 3gs a month or 2 ago. all seemed fine, but if you turn it off or download from cydia, it gets stuck on the apple logo on reboot. used boot tethered for that, but still have those problems. secondly, in the last couple of days the iphone has stopped allowing me to send texts or ring anyone, it just says call failed immediately. tried a different sim but this time it doesnt have any signal aswell, and doesnt always show the network.

someone please help !!!

I suggest rejailbreak or restore to a more recent backup before you had this issue.

tried re-jailbreaking with the same software but it gets stuck on the apple logo.
cant restore the phone with itunes because of the ipad baseband

What firmware are you on and what baseband? What did you use to JB?
Is it unlocked also or on official carrier?

jailbroke and unlocked it with redsnow. its the ipad baseband 06.15.00 its the only one you can use with the newer version of the 3gs with 4.2.1

You have a tethered JB.
That means each time you turn off or restart or your battery dies you can only boot up the phone using redsnow again.
No way around that yet.
If you installed the ipad BB you can only restore to custom 4.2.1 firmware created with pwnage.
You will not be able to restore to official firmware.
Find a custom 4.2.1 ipsw for the 3GS online if you can and restore to that.
Also install ultrasnow to unlock.

yeah thats right.
right ok, can you recommend anywhere to download it ?
how do i go about restoring with the custom firmware on pwnage ?

can you recommend another software instead of redsnow ? been put off with it now

Whats the problem?
Did you point redsnow to the official 4.2.1 ipsw? Not the custom one you downloaded right.
Did you select "Just enter pwned DFU mode right now?"
And after that you open up itunes and restore to the JB ipsw you downloaded. That's it.
Your only options are redsnow or Pwnage tool.
And pwnage is for macs only.

ive restored with itunes, and its back to the sim activation thing. i was gonna jailbreak and unlock it again, but i wondered if there was a better software than redsnow

Sounds like the custom ipsw you downloaded and restored to was unactivated so you will need an official sim to the provider the iphone is locked to in order to activate.
Look for iPhone 3GS Custom iOS 4.1 Firmware IPSW Activated (for UnOfficial Carrier Users)
Your only options are redsnow and pwnage like I said above.

Exactly.
You cant JB a jailbroken custom firmware.
And when you installed the ipad baseband it made things more complicated.
In the future you can only restore your iphone to custom ipsw's so save an activated custom 4.2.1 ipsw cause you might need it again.

right ok, thanks :D

after ages of searching, i havent been able to find an activated custom restore ipsw. i need one with the 06.15.00 baseband too. anyone got a link ?

if not how hard is it to build one ?

Actually the one above is not hactivated.
All you have to do is, restore using the custom 4.2.1 and use redsn0w but make sure cydia is unchecked when you run redsnow.

forgo to check here, but managed to find out that i needed to hactivate it. did that and installed ultrasn0w. got the same issue that made me try to restore the phone in the first place. any sim i put in will eventually be recognised, but theres no signal at all.

anyone solve this for me ? :(
