The hint was in his letter:

In order to take myself out of the limelight and focus on my health, and to allow everyone at Apple to focus on delivering extraordinary products, I have decided to take a medical leave of absence until the end of June.

However - rereading it- it's pure Jobsian! Jobs is saying that HE has decided to take medical leave until the end of June. WHilst SChiller is down for the MC of WWDC, the above doesn't preclude anything else, depending on his health status.

I was hoping he'd make an appearance at WWDC but given that he was out on medical leave its not surprise. I think he was due to return back to his duties in June but maybe being thrown into WWDC right after his return was asking too much of him.
