April 20, 2006 -- The record industry may be on the verge of waving the white flag in front of Apple boss Steve Jobs, and abandoning its demand for iTunes to charge different prices for different songs, The Post has learned.
Negotiations between Apple and the four major music companies - with which iTunes deals all expire in the next two months - have reached a crucial point as several record executives now say they are unlikely to convince Jobs to allow variable pricing, sources said.

This marks a change of tune for the record industry as late last year several executives said they believed variable pricing - something the music companies have been pushing for - was imminent.

woot

this proves again that steve handles much power and respect, not just in the computer or digital music player arena, but also in the music industry, i think they know that if they piss off ole steve, he prolly wouldnt have a problem shtutting down itms for a week and seeing how much they suffer without it.

Way to go Steve™.

He knows, and they know that they are being held by the proverbial balls.

People would run to Limewire faster than scrolled butter if they increased pricing, and they know it.

he isnt fighting the entire industry just the dumb@$$ that owns Victory Records..Tony Brumel. The dude is a total tool. haha. He always tries to make shifty decisions that only benefit him and noone else. oh well. Apple wins again. All that matters. Brumel is only hurting his artists by not allowing there music to be sold on iTunes.

yeah I read that e-mail exchange, it basically sounds like Steve saying "Yes, we'd love to have you on iTunes, let's make it happen!" and the guy from victory is going "No no wait, I want special treament because I'm the #1 independant record label in the country, we should do a cross promotion because I'm the #1 independant record label in the country. Can I have a %'edge of iPod sales because I'm the #1 independant record lable in the country?"

Hell even Scrubs was added to iTunes it wasn't a big campaign, all I've seen is a little banner about it during episodes of scrubs telling people that it's now available on iTunes.

Victory Records needs to get off their high horse, if they want to do a cross promotion just add a "Now Available on iTunes" banner to their site or something.
