Her Majesty the Queen of England today presented Apple Senior VP of Industrial Design, Jonathan Ive, with a Commander of the Order of the British Empire award today. The award was first established in 1917 by George V to recognize “all levels of service to the country during the First World War.” It has since come to embrace “service and achievement in all fields,” however. As the designer of the iMac and iPod, Ive has influenced Apple as a company in numerous ways. He also was named Designer of the Year by the Design Museum London and is titled “Royal Designer for Industry.” Now who ever knew that an Apple employee had an in with the Queen?

There we go; thanks for clearing that up. I wonder why it took so long for him to receive it??

You realise you've excluded maybe 40% of the guys on MacRumors with that question? :p :p :p

Even though it's kind of old news, it's great Ive has been recognised in this way. Top guy.

Just to educate a little though, England is not the same as the UK. I know it can be complicated from the outside, but the UK is composed of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The Queen is queen of all four, plus Commonwealth countries too. No-one in UK would call her 'the Queen of England' normally.

he's a man after my own heart, and a brilliant designer, and i want him to definitely take over from Steve, you only have to listen to him talk about the design of an apple product on the introduction videos to tell he's the next Steve jobs, maybe not as good but certainly better than the rest at apple, and he's English, rather concerning that RoJo finds him hot:eek:

I wrote a paper for my Aesthetics class last year on the aesthetics of Apple, obviously Jonathan Ive was an important part of the paper. I really respect that guy, and would not be at all upset if he had an important role at Apple after Steve Left.

I can actually see him and Phil being a good team as co rulers.

:D

queen of england....if only

to the editor of macuser :

As the Editor I believe you should be ashamed of yourself.

Describing 'your' queen as the Queen of England when clearly she is not, is a totally outrageous story to allow on your companies pages.

Mr Silverman is either very uneducated, or an example of why so many people outside England regard your citizen's as less than respectful.

I do however lay the blame at your door. You hire, pay and allow articles by your workers to go ahead and be published.

I will be advising my advertising company and publisher not to deal with your magazine in the future, and refrain from buying it personally again.

me bitter? no....

:D
