Apple's Journal app is finally coming to the Mac and iPad with macOS 26 and iPadOS 26.

To date, the Journal app has only been available on the iPhone. With iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS 26, it will become cross-platform. On the iPad, Apple says the app allows users to:

Jot down your thoughts, illustrate, and create entries in your own handwriting using Apple Pencil whenever inspiration strikes. Multiple journals let you keep entries for different aspects of your life separate, images can be added inline with text for a more flexible layout, and a beautiful map view shows entries based on their location.

And on the Mac:

Now on Mac for the most comfortable writing experience, Journal makes it easy to capture and write about everyday moments and special events using photos, videos, audio recordings, places, your state of mind, and more.

The Journal app was first released with iOS 17.2, and it's taken almost two years for it to reach other devices. New features for this year include multiple journals, Apple Pencil support, and more.

I was hoping for Journal to come to macOS, but having a digital journal makes me nervous in these times. Good for daily jotting down things, though :)

Hoping there's an 'on this day' widget soon (I think that's still missing today).
Still liking Day One because of the widget and the option to print the journal as a book.

Great, if overdue.

I honestly thought it was already on the Mac.

I've got decades of diary entries in Day One so I'm somewhat locked into that platform, even though I'm not a million percent keen on the app or the company behind it. Doubt very much Apple will have an import tool.

FINALLY! I love the concept, and the way it works on iOS... but I sit in front of my Mac all day, and hate typing on the iPhone for anything more than a quick text message.

But does it have robust export options?
Or is it still one of Apple's data silos, designed to lock users into their platform?

Yep. I’ve been using Day One daily since 2012, and I don’t think I’d stop. It’s got a lot of functionality that isn’t here in the Journal yet. Still, it pleases me that if I ever DID need to leave Day One, I’d have a place to go. I imagine for anyone who isn’t as die-hard, or hasn’t yet started a journal, this will be a solid option.

See if, and in that case how much can be imported, to Apple Journal.
I have not only diary entries, but also notes aroubd a myriad of subjects in DayOne.
Apple notes haven't felt enough at an earlier state, at least not for me.
Subscrptions are just pure joy to get rid of, when it's possible - we'll see if it's possible within time.
