I have a black leather smart cover for my new Ipad, and a snap shield secure on order, but I am wondering if I may be better off with the Smartsuit3 as it is cheaper and possibly offers better drop protection than the belkin.

The advantage to the smart cover + belkin combo is that the apple cover is detatachable if you want it to, which may or may not be preferable (to me it is). Which combo would you go with between the two?

We were discussing the SmartSuit 3 on another thread. It really does get great reviews. I have ordered one in black, am still awaiting delivery. My Hubby learned the hard way about sufficient protection. He dropped his iPad 2 a couple of weeks ago, and the screen cracked, back corner received a bad ding as well.
He had to pay for repairs because we were selling our units in prep for the new iPads.

I've actually ordered both options that you mentioned and I'm going to keep the one that I like the best. Only difference is I have the dark grey smart cover. For some reason, amazon lists the belkin case as black, but I believe it is actually "smoke" per the belkin site. Either way, can't wait to get both cases to see which is the better looking option.

These are the exact two options I'm considering too (well possibly not those makes). I had a different make of the Joy Smartsuit for my iPad 2 and it was fantastic.

But sometimes I just wanted to hold the iPad without the cover. So was thinking this time to go for a smart cover and a back shield (possibly Belkin or Incipio or another hard case one that doesn't cover the front bezel).
