My JPEG previews are not working even though the icon previews are switched on

1) other icon previews DO work
2) when I pull up the 'get info' window on one of the JPEGs, the get info window includes a preview which works, so there IS a preview associated with the file.

Bizarre or what?

Try restarting the Finder (hold down the option/alt key and then hold the mouse button down over the Finder icon in the dock until the menu appears. Then hit "Force Quit") and/or your computer.

You could also try repairing permissions: Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility -> Repair Disk Permissions

Yeah, I can see that, but try switching it on and off again...
I know it solved it one time for me, hope it does the same trick for you...
(I see now that I was a bit "short" in my answer)

Most of the time, force quitting the finder will solve this problem also, like johnnyjibbs suggested!

Do you have this problem on all your jpegs or just a specific folder?

Try deleting your .ds_store files. By default they are hidden, you can use TinkerTool, Onyx or a "Show Hidden Files" widget to view them.

Delete the .ds_store file in the folder you're having trouble with.
Close the window.
Empty the trash.
Hide hidden files again and then navigate to your file.

Hopefully it should have fixed the problem.

All jpegs, whether on my hard disk or CD.

Anyway, rebooting the finder fixed it! Time will tell if this is a regular issue.

Thanks for everyone's input.

force quit finder fixed the icons for me

Fixed it for me too. Thanks. I did a search for this on google and found this thread right away.

For me I held down the alt/option key while clicking on the finder icon in the doc, then selected "relaunch". I didn't see a force quit option. but this did the trick. Now it looks like a mac with nice preview icons, not a pc.
