MBP 2016 left me in a precarious state... had to buy a new computer on the company dole, but wasn't willing to buy the latest MBP...from a hardware stance and price point.

Ended up buying Dell XPS 15, nvidia 1050, 16GBs RAM, Kaby lake quad core.

Admittedly, not a power mac user...I like windows for gaming. Now I'm running Mac OS in virtual machine and it's totally reasonable given my needs. I'm still getting my footing, but wanted to let others know it's an option.

That's a good alternative.

As for a power user, Linus has the best description about the type of users machines are made for these days, I think he is spot on.

The whole I'm a "pro" user is people's self importance , your machine fits 99.9% of "pro" users
