I have an early 2008 MacBook "Core 2 Duo" 2.4Ghz 13" with a couple of problems.
1) The cursor is “jumpy.” On its own it jumps all over the screen when I try to type anything. I’ve read postings from others complaining about this problem, but I haven’t seen a solution. There are suggestions that the battery is pressing against the underside of the keyboard. I replaced the battery early last and the problem began some time after that. The battery I bought is an offbrand, not an Apple battery, so there’s something to that theory.
2) The other problem is also related to the battery. Twice recently while using the MacBook on battery power, it abruptly shut down when the power level reached the lower 70 percent level. When I restarted using the power adapter it showed the battery level at ZERO. After charging it started and worked as normal.
Are the two problems related? If so, would a new battery be likely to fix them? It’s easy enough to buy a new battery, but is something else out of whack?
