Looking back over the past years of MR site design I noticed one change that I think could be reversed, if it is possible to do so in the current version of the XenForo software. It used to be that a user without a profile picture's posts would just collapse the section where the picture is, making their posts more condensed if their length was less than the size that the profile picture necessitates. Obviously now they show profile pictures that are just letters on colors, which I have always thought to be extremely silly and unnecessary especially on a site like this.

Reverting to a system more like the one in the attached screenshot I think would give the site a more Pleasant experience overall, no need to see those colors circles that show nothing. If the problem with this is that the main forum page needs profile pictures, then the solution would be to remove them from threads but not the main page? Again, I'm not sure if reverting to this style is even a possibility in the current version but wanted to throw this out there if it is possible. Less wasted space is always a good thing.

Funny thing is my image blocker extension will still show the letter of the user without a profile pick. I agree it should show nothing.
