just a quick wifi question

i tried searching the forum but wasnt able to find an answer so here it goes

i want my iphone to connect to my home network when in range but i dont want it to connect to any other networks (so i turned of 'ask to join...')

so will it impact my battery life much? is wifi constantly searching for my home network or? does it have automatic standby mode to save battery?
