As Apple indicates on: http://www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/
, the model A1428 is capable for T-mobile's AWS network
But it is NOT true!

So here's my story:
I ordered an unlocked iPhone 5 online last Saturday because I was using T-mobile prepaid plan, and today I received it. After setting up, I noticed it was still on EDGE, working exactly as my old iPhone 4S. So I knew something was wrong. After a quick search, I found this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5720?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

in short, even if you buy a A1428 iPhone now, you probably still get one without AWS support! The only way to distinguish the two different A1428 models is checking serial number.

then I drove to apple store, returned my iPhone 5 and bought a new A1428 with AWS support

The apple guy told me the point here is that Apple still has sufficient stock of old A1428 model iPhone 5. So if you order online, they probably will send you an old A1428 iPhone 5... but if you go to Apple store and make a purchase, that will not be a problem. (tell them you are on T-mobile)

So just a reminder here, and if anyone has already mentioned this issue you can ignore this post :)
