Hey.

Is there a way to send just audio through the Mini DisplayPort on my 2010 MacBook Pro?

I just want the audio as I'm sending 192kHz 24bit music to my AV Receiver.

By having the picture being send too, the battery life drops and the macbook heats up because the graphics card is powering 2 monitors. Plus theres the risk of screen burn on my tv.

Is there an option somewhere to force the MacBook Pro to just use it's own monitor when a Mini DisplayPort cable is plugged in but still send out the hd audio?

Thanks

Why not get an optical TOSLINK cable for the transfer of audio?

Because the AV Receiver (Onkyo 609) will only accept 96kHz with optical. Needs to be HDMI to get 192kHz. Obviously, I go from Mini DisplayPort to HDMI with an adapter.

Also, I'm not sure if the optical port on the MacBook Pro can support 192kHz too.

And you need the 192kHz I suppose?
Do you play 192kHz encoded audio or audio recorded at 96kHz?
