Hello All,

I just bought a G5 Quad. The seller hooked me up with the serial number (G8613STR70)...I'm assuming he/she meant "SG8613STR70". When I type this serial into the various Apple serial decoders online, I get the G5 Quad, but a production year of 2008. I'm quite confident the G5 Quad wasn't made in 2008 lol. Your thoughts everyone?

Maybe you got a really good deal, maybe it's an original Mac Pro.

Well, even though it is a G5 Quad, it is still a great computer! Max out the RAM, put in a flashed 7800GTX or a Quadro 4500 and have some fun. Oh yeah, only do this if you have some money to burn as it will cost a bit.

One of my main computers is a G5 Quad with everything top end and I use it every day for intensive tasks. I really love the last (and greatest in my opinion even with the LCS) PPC Mac.

Just an update, I got the package in today. It is indeed a PowerMac G5 Quad. I'm very satisfied with this computer. I'm switching from a Late 2006 iMac (2.0Ghz Core2Duo) and I have to say, this thing is noticeably faster than the iMac. I've got 8GB of RAM installed right now but I'll probably throw a few more GB's in at some point. It's really hard to believe that this thing is from 2005.

If you don't mind telling us, where did you buy it and how much did you pay, I'm looking into powermacs right now.

I bought it for $450 on eBay. It had 4GB of RAM and a 7800GT video card. I'm using it right actually, lol. It's an awesome machine and still lightning fast. I'm dual-booting tiger and leopard.
