I have a brand new 8 core 2.8ghz mac pro, I bought the video card upgrade kit for it, the card they gave me is a 8800gt for 1st gen mac pro's.

When I boot my mac with the card installed it just hangs at a black screen and I hear the loud fans on the 8800gt and they never go into normal mode.

I assume I got the wrong card?

Got it replaced! The new 8800 GT is installed and works great, it's decent for games but I think my 2g RAM may be holding me back.

Nice to see you got the card replaced.

You have a 64bit beast sitting at your desk. Get more than 2Gb ram :) It's incredibly cheap to buy 2GBx4 (8GB) at OWC. You should check it out. Just pull the 2GB out and stick the 8GB in so you can take advantage of its full potential. You need at least 4 sticks to get the full 256bit wide memory architecture
