So a new touch is out, RIGHT before I buy a WAY more expensive less powerful one.

So, I think there is a 30 day trail period right? Can I return the first one and get the better one?

Heres the bad thing:
It is engraved o_O

any thoughts? I am slightly new to apple.

Unfortunately you probably screwed yourself with the engraving. Try not to think about it. Now you know to watch MacRumors!

Yea, its no big deal. I still like the one I have. Its very nice. Just wondering if I could. If the option was there might as well use it.

It's not like the new iPod Touch is much improved. Marginally better battery life for video (5 hrs vs 6 hrs), external volume controls (which is the best thing added), and a crappy internal speaker that isn't usable unless you're in a quiet room (or so I've heard).

Oh, and that Nike+ thing.

BTW the new one isn't anymore powerful. It has a few new features.

I have no idea what Apple's actual policy is, but you might be able to get some money back due to the price change, like how other stores have a 'price guarantee'. It's worth asking.

A very similar thing happened to me when I bought my first iPod (a 40Gb 4G). The iPod Photo came out the very next day. In that case the 'Photo' was more expensive, and added features I didn't really need, so I just lived with it.

Otherwise, enjoy your Touch. I expected it to be a pretty cool device when I bought mine, and it has far exceeded my expectations.

talk to a manager, if its been less than 14 days they should help you out. If youre nice, and theyre having a good day, they most likely would help you. but walk in and ask for a manager and dont back down. =)

Once it's engraved, Apple cannot take it back. There's nothing the OP can do but enjoy the iPod. Especially since there's nothing much improved in the new version.

Ehh, IMO I think the incremental update isn't worth the hassle of maybe getting it exchanged. You can try, but I'd say the odds are certainly not in your favor. Its a nice little toy, enjoy!

Since its now well established that the engraving screwed you, you should be able to contact Apple's customer support and maybe get a curtosy credit since the prices just went down.

Definetly worth the try for a quick phone call.

it is engraved = can not return.

so i'd just enjoy it if i were you, and manage the cognitive dissonance. also, make macrumors.com your homepage, or at least check it every so often. it will keep you up to date on apple products and possible release dates so you can make a better decision next time

The price is improved. I think the OP might be able to get them to refund the difference, or give store credit, etc. I still say it's worth asking.

Agreed. Apple definitely won't take it back since it is engraved, but they might refund the price difference. You certainly have nothing to lose by asking. I would.
