Just got it today in the mail, buuut... I am truly ignorant...

I Already have a 2wire Wireless Router/Modem that my ISP gave me for free when getting their service, I thought that this new Airport Extreme was going to replace my current wireless modem, but no, it has to be chained to my current modem via ethernet! Isn't that going to make things slower? I mean I like to keep things simple, but having now 2 routers will go against that purpose, sooo any way to make it work as a modem/router?

Thanks in advance,
JC

You are correct. The Airport Extreme is not meant to be a replacement for your 2wire setup. It is meant to act as a router for a standalone cable/DSL modem or as a wireless access point on an existing LAN.

If you just want to use the Extreme's 802.11n wireless capabilities, you can place it in bridge mode and not disrupt the routing provided by your 2wire.
