First time buying an apple product out of impatience on ebay! However I feel I got a pretty good deal.

Bought a brand new 16GB Black WiFi model for $555 shipped. The auction ended for $600 plus $15 shipping. However I had an ebay coupon for 10% off electronics that I was able to utilize (expires tomorrow so it came to good use just in time). So it ended up being $540 plus $15 shipping.

Best part is the guy lives 20 minutes from me. I don't feel so bad paying $20 above retail especially because of apple's shipping at 3-4 weeks now. Honestly I don't think the guy made any money...he got $615 but after the paypal fees and ridiculous ebay fees he probably just broke even.

Sorry for the random post...first one in a while.

I bought my first gen from eBay a few days after it came out in the States. Cost me $50 or so more (incl shipping) than the eventual retail price in Australia but I had it a couple of months before it was released here. Well worth to me :)

Honestly though I can't believe they are selling out and they are already on 3-4 weeks shipping time. Simply amazing.

My guess is that anyone who really wants one (outside of maybe the tristate area) will be able to get one in the next two weeks.

I'm in the UK and I bought one of eBay on Friday night.

It is currently on a flight to the UK.

I hope to be able to collect it from the UK depot tomorrow (Monday) as it will arrive tonight around midnight and be through customs fast (because the guy put the value at $750 they will happily charge me 20% tax I'm sure).

If I waited for it to be delivered I'd prob get it Thursday but as the depot is at the airport I can collect it faster.

I paid a big preminum on the US price but I got a smart cover and in UK currency it's a relatively small premium on the UK price.

Just picked it up from the seller. Great transaction!

So the total for you was $540? That's awesome as it sounds like the seller actually lost money on it! Any story where an ebayer loses money on something like this is a thumbs up in my book. :)

Ummm no. Pay attention. The coupon wasn't issued by the seller, it was issued by Ebay. Ebay eats the 10%.

I paid the $15 shipping even thought I met them in person. But yes my total was $540 plus $15 shipping = $555.

Great deal.

Yup...ebay ate $60!

My mistake. Seller wins again.:(

On the bright side, at least op didn't have to pay a ridiculous price that was way over retail for one.

That sucks. How come he charged you for shipping when you did all the work to pick it up?

i guess i'm just too paranoid about things like that (not ebay itself but the fact that some people sell brand new products a day after launch). but anyway i feel happy every time someone successfully gathers an item under unusual circumstances that turn out to be for the benefit of the individual consumer.

Hah that's what I figured. There are so many resellers now that it's very hard to break even unless you sell outside the US. The guy probably made $20 on the transaction including the shipping. That's less than minimum wage depending on how long he waited.

Seller got about $560 after ebay fees if you paid with cash. If you paid with paypal the seller got about $541.

Which considering NY/NJ sales tax is pretty much breaking even, they even lost money if they paid NYC tax.

just bought a black 16GB wifi from ebay for $579 shipped. Seller had 4 of them and all were sold within minutes. I paid about $30 over retail, but I think it's worth it considering I've been spending so much time trying to find one. It will be my first ipad

Congrats! Was it $579 shipped?
