for 66 bucks, needs HD, and more ram (only 64mb)

suggestions?

just going to use it for internet useage while my MBP is doing CPU intensive work

Lombard or Pismo?

Looking around briefly, the cheapest new hard drives will cost you around $45 for 60gb.

As far as RAM is concerned, I would stick with 256mb modules rather than 512mb modules. The cost per megabyte for 256mb modules tends to be quite a bit less. As far as I can tell, only the Pismo will take 512mb modules anyway.

according to the auction it maxes out at 1gig, but who knows if that is accurate, i have an old 80gb drive outta my old compaq (non sata) that should work in it, i forgot about that, so its just memory now...ill buy two 256meg sticks then if ya'll think thats the wisest thing to do

heres the auction page btw http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=300148261439&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=020

ok, so it suposeably supports up to panther, so i guess ill have to find me a copy of that..no problem, says it should support 2x256 for 512meg ram, sweet, this should work out well

U R Not Getting Tiger On That Thing...

I also have a PowerBook G3 except mine is a pismo. In order to install tiger you need to have a firewire port built in which you don't so you'll need to install panther or lower. BTW mine runs fine with 320 MGs of ram.

What are you going to do with that antique?!

surf and chat while my MBP is rendering video hooked up to my external HDs, thus not being able to be sitting on my lap

ive been looking at ibooks, but 300 is a bit more than i wanted to sped, 66 bucks works nicely for me:D

i noticed, not a problem, ill go find a copy from somewhere (amazon marketplace..ebay) or..dare i say downloaded...no id never do that:cool:

im not familiar with older mac stuff, whats that mean anyway?

It's just a code word for that particular model. It doesn't mean anything.

The next revision was the Pismo, which included Firewire and a better video chip. A little bit faster too.

yeah i knew that i was just curious about the specifics and what i might need to make it work

ive hard of someone putting a pismo board in it but how does that work if its got firewire?

My Pismo is coming up to its 8th birthday :) Only use it now for web browsing and the occasional presentations at the office. Thought about swapping it for a macbook pro earlier in the year but instead just bought an airport card and new battery for the Pismo instead  At this rate its going to out last my G5 tower :p

Upgrade the HD and RAM and OS X 10.2 should fly. I even do youtube on my 350 mhz imac without any trouble. Max out the ram and get a 7200 rpm HD,

69 bucks for a 60gb 7200rpm travelstar, not bad, i already got 512meg of memory coming, im going to try installing panther on the old 80gb drive i have from my old compaq first to make sure everything works good before throwing much more money at it, it shipped today should have it thursday, im way to excited over an ancient piece of technology, should keep my occupied until my itouch comes
