I bought a APC UPS XS 1300 today, and I currently have it set up on the floor next to my desk (see pic below.).

The floor is carpeted. Is it safe to keep the UPS on the carpeted floor (fire hazard?), or should I buy a small table or something to put it on, so its not on carpet?

Thanks in advance. :)

I have stored them on the flow for years. It is not like they generated much heat.
I just touched the UPS and its not hot at all. I just thought that the carpet might interfere with the airflow, since the battery is on the bottom.

Carpets and electronics are never a good mix. You might dust up the inside of your ups pretty badly, also static charges from you shuffling over the carpet might not be good for it (or your computers).

I for one hate carpets, nothing beats hardwood floors.

biggest problem with carpet or being with in few inches of the floor is dust. Think about UPS is the fans in them never kick on until it is operating on the battery which is only when the power goes out. Since it runs so little that dust will not be a real issue since the fans are not actively sucking it in.

Is okay to put UPS directly to tiles floor

Good Day,

I know this thread is already aging, but i need your opinions and help guys very badly. By putting UPS directly to tiles floor affect performance of the battery?
thank you.

Never a fan of anything electronic on carpet, dust, heat, fire hazard.

The only thing I've put on the carpet are desktop towers, but thats it.

Go to Lowes, buy a small section of plastic or plywood, or something.

Measure the footprint, have them cut it out, put it on top of that.

I think the OP has probably solved his problem by now....

I've used UPSs for quite some time now and I never gave a second thought as to where I put it. Also, I've never had any issues with them due to where they are placed. I currently have 3 that I use for my FiOS box/converter, another for my router and modem and the other for my TV stuff (TV, ATV, receiver, etc).

The only drawback is when the battery is dying and the annoying beep it makes. If I can't replace it immediately, that beep drives me up the wall. I've never known how to turn it off without rendering the entire device powerless.
