You wasted a boatload of money on RAM.

Except

64bit processor so no he did not as when 64 bit apps become the norm he will have the ability to use more than just 3.2gig of ram.

He could have saved a bunch of money by buying it from anyone but Apple...

I was referring to the money Apple charges for RAM. (Almost) everybody knows that you can get RAM (way) cheaper elsewhere. In this case it's actually not as much as I expected: Apple charges $200 for the 4GB upgrade. I bought 2x2GB RAM from Kingston for about $100.

So, to revise my previous post, the OP didn't waste a "boatload" of money, but "just" about $100, which is still a significant sum, for me anyway.

Me too, me too!!
First ever Mac just ordered.... 2.5GHz 15 inch MBP.
CANNOT WAIT!!

lol it was only $180 to upgrade from 2GB to 4GB, I make that in about 2 days, so I could really care less :p

thank you for your input though

hello high roller . . . deary me!

i could make that in less than a second but im still not buying RAM from apple ;) haha! Truth or am I just being pretencious???

Congrats!

I got my first mac back in April and Im still super excited about it and cant believe what Ive been missing all these years. Everything is just so much less of a pain in the ass on a mac.

Not to mention for things I do like creating disk images and such that all comes BUILT IN, no need to go buy extra software like you do on windows. Its nice.

with education discount, ram is only $180 and aftermarket ram ranges from $80-$130ish so it's really not wasting that much and you get the peace of mind that its already in there and covered by apple and plus you can be lazy and not have to order from another place and then have to put it in yourself. ;) also you can brag about how your mbp has 4gigs in it as soon as you receive it!:D

haha don't worry man, i definitely did the same thing and bought the 4gigs from apple

Awesome!! Going to pick mine up later this week. My first Mac!! A MB White, 2.4Ghz, 2GB RAM, and 160GB hard drive plus iwork, 160GB external hard drive, and other goodies!!

Hi,
Just a question about this RAM topic. What is the brand of the ram that Apple puts into the MBPs ?

T.

Congrats to the new Mac owners!

I think it varies depending on where they get the best deal. I believe Samsung is one of their brands. If you're upgrading or buying a new (or Apple store refurb), just go with the standard RAM and upgrade from someplace like OWC -- macsales.com

It is much less expensive that way. I upgraded the RAM in my first Mac too, then learned from forums like this that it was less expensive and simple to put in additional RAM myself.

So something like this for example :
http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other World Computing/5300DDR2S2GB/

2GB $74.81 (48€) with shipping to europe. Not bad compared to the $247 (160€) of the Apple shop

Thanks. I bookmark that page and keep on waiting for a MBP update to get myself one ;)
