i just got the new mbp and i need help transfering all my music from my external hardrive. i want it so that i can see all my music on there but when the hardrive is not plugged in the music will not play so that its not saved to the cpu.

If it's using iTunes just drag the iTunes folder to ~/Music on your laptop hard drive. (Or anywhere for that matter)
Then tell iTunes that new folder location in Preferences -> Advanced -> General
