Hello, I just bought a refurbished with 4 GB 20" iMac. I know its old and as of now, I can not upgrade to Mavericks. I have a newer IMac Air that has Mavericks and would like to be able to have the same OS on this one but learned that since it is late 2006, i am no longer supported…LOL

I mainly got this mac to transfer Hi8mm tapes and (yes) SONY mini-disc and to use as a server for 1,400 albums, 21,000 songs I have on a 2 TB WD external hard drive via my SONOS system.

So far as a music source for SONOs and iTunes cloud, flawless. Now I no longer have to switch back between an older iMac and my Air.

Though not necessary, I would like to upgrade to Mavericks and have read pros and cons and now may now even consider using Bootcamp. Especially since the support of the SONY camcorder and Mini Disc is there in the way of software more readily avail for a Windows OS.

My priorities are transferring my Hi8mm cass's to digital format via firewire or USB from a later generation SONY Hi8 camcorder and some priceless minidisk recordings from either or both a home unit or portable SONY MZ unit and burn to DVD/CD.

Any comments, suggestions, help and so would be greatly appreciated from those willing to help. I know there will be a few haters, negative lifers (remember Drax said we're all 'LOSERS'..haha)

I running Lion 10.5.7 at 2.16 g and 4 gb…

Thanks ahead of time for your help…dozer

PS. I wanted to also use this to use and store over 30 gb of pictures but can't get or download iPhoto. i tried to use the iLife flash drive I got with my Air but you all know how that worked out….Thanks again...
