I've got two 24inch 3.06GHz imacs (2008) one upstairs, one downstairs.
Time capsule is set on the 2.4Ghz mode for n,b,g and both imacs are getting around 130mbps.
Is this as good as it gets or can I do better?

130mbps? Whoa, that's way better than I ever get.

That said, are all the Macs that connect to the Time Capsule 802.11n enabled? If they are, then try switching to 5 GHz N-only mode. You might see even greater speeds.

Switch to N only 2,4Ghz. I recommend don't switch to N only 5 Ghz because this is only useful in clear line of sight between computer and TC. 2,4Ghz goes through objects better, but does have more chance of interference since it's more commonly used range.

many thanks for that - I need to allow a rubbish work laptop to see a g frequency so I'm probably using the best option for now...
