had to scrub away the bitter coating before it worked - super annoying.

One of my first 5 bought at launch just recently replaced - that's about 18 months on a single CR2032. I've bought 10 of the Panasonic's on Amazon for less than $10 for these and other items around the house that utilize them.

I have it on my dogs collar (I know, not it’s usecase technically)
Just to make sure it's not a dud, I'd rotate it out with one of the other ones - just to see if it's the usage or the AirTag itself. (mine that needed changed was the one on my keychain - the one in the dog's harness is fine) :)

I just got a message that I need to replace my battery. Is there some sort of instructions or video that shows you how to replace?

Sure (it's just about the easiest thing there is) :)

But, here's the official Apple Support video:

Oh - reminder - try not to purchase the Duracell ones with the "child proof" bitter coating - you'll need to remove the coating to prevent connectivity issues in AirTags.

Very much appreciated. Yeah, definitely beyond easy. :)

Easy! Just hold your thumb on the battery back, twist anticlockwise a small amount and there is the battery. Make sure you put the new one in the same way, reattach the case and it should pair fine. Any problems, repeat the battery in/out drill 3-4 times until you get a LONG cheeping noise.

Same here, very annoying. I have about 10 airtags and I specifically bought “good quality” Duracell batteries to replace them. The good news is that you can wash off the coating and it seems to work after that.
