There is no work around to the DVD region encoding. It is somehow permenantly burnt into the ROM and can only be changed 5 times after the initial setting. There is no way to "manually" modify this without going through the software. On commercial DVD players, I believe that it cannot be changed at all. Don't worry though, even though a computer DVD must be comfigured for a certain region, it burns disc with a region zero code that will function in any player. What do you want to do with your DVD player that you need a work around. My older brother just bought a Combo drive iBook, and he is spending the next two years in Taiwan, and he will have no problem with running out of region encoding switches.
