some prefrences were still intact. In system pref. under spotlight's privacy tab my external hdd's were already there. Also I install VLC and loaded up a movie which proceeded to resume where I last stopped it before the install. Not really a biggie but I thought all my previous settings should have been wiped out...

The spotlight exclusions might be stored on the external drives, but the VLC thing is interesting. Any other preferences that stuck around?

How did you do the erase?

If you did it using Disk Utility (on the Mac, not the Install DVD) then a lot of your preferences would be saved (mainly the System Preferences). The Leopard/Tiger Install DVD Disk Utility will do fully wipes and what not.

But it is interesting that VLC kept those settings... I wonder... Is your movie on an external drive and any of your VLC files on that external drive?

Yup the movie is on an external drive. VLC was a new download and not an old copy I had so this really has me confuzzeled:eek:
