Hey guys,

I was sitting and typing an email on my MBP ‘16 and all of a sudden very high pitch sound comes out of my speakers on full volume for 2 seconds, not a tone but something that will annoy you instantly. Both of cats that were near me jumped up and I, myself was shaken up too.

Best part? The volume was actually set on mute, it just randomly went off.

Anybody had similar problems?

Keep discovering new potholes with this MBP

Electronic devices must accept Interference. Which loosely translated means sometimes you get weird sounds from speakers.

I’ve heard voices from radios that were turned off. Full conversations from somebody in apparent near proximity to my house.

I’ve heard all kinds of things over the years come out of speakers.

I get random sounds from my speaker system several times a day. It’s just radio frequencies and electronic interference from neighbors.

If it happens once, I wouldn’t be concerned. If it happens periodically I wouldn’t worry. But if you can determine the sound to originate from a function of the computer, then you might be concerned.

Make note of the issue, reboot and move on :)

If it keeps happening, contact apple, otherwise, just chalk it up to one of thse things.

Do your speakers sound like they normally does after this happened, or do you experience any chang in sound quality?
If not, do as @maflynn recommended

Hah... I had this issue 2 months after buying the MBP 15 2017.
One morning when I opened the lid, a horrible electric sound came from left speakers and burned them completely.
Went to Apple store and they replaced the entire top of the MBP.
